By Jennifer Patek | 6 hours agoThe owner of a barbershop in Chicago’s Loop is accused of using his barbershops black staff to cut black hair, and allegedly forcing black people to do the same.
In the latest salacious allegation, the owner, Giovanni Giovanni, who was previously a barber, allegedly used a black employee as a scapegoat to get rid of the black staff, according to court documents obtained by BuzzFeed News.
In court papers filed on Thursday, Giovanna’s attorneys alleged that Giovannas employees routinely used derogatory terms to refer to African Americans and used derogatory language about the black community.
They also alleged that in 2015, Giavanni told a black female employee that she was a ‘slut’ because she had been with a black man.
Giovanni is charged with five counts of racial harassment.
The allegations against him are particularly concerning given that his business is in a predominantly black neighborhood.
He has been accused of harassment by several black residents and businesses, and has been criticized for his lack of sensitivity toward his customers.
Giavanni’s business is located in the Loop, which is predominantly black, and is just one of many in the city that have been accused by residents of racial discrimination.
